This week for my 20% project I looked over my ideas for the project and what exactly I wanted to find out. I decided that I wanted to answer the question "How does entertainment censorship differ between countries and how does this affect society in that country." This question is not easily answered and will have to be looked into more. In addition to me reviewing my possible questions I also looked up the different forms of censorship between some countries. Although much is left to be uncovered and I just grazed the surface, the one thing I did manage uncover was this article about a game being released and what the country of Australia did to this game. The Article can be found here: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/saints-row-iv-ban-upheld-in-australia/1100-6412149/
This censorship varies from the rest of the world and is one example of how censorship varies thought our society. Another bit I discovered was how Japan reacted to the game. It was extremely marketed there. With many influences of Japan being thrown into the game. Japan had commercials for this game running constantly on TV and some Japanese users felt the game could have gone farther. Along the same lines a censorship we have the difference in media between countries. Here in the United States if you flick on the news you receive your daily dose of violence, sadness, and an overall terrible helping of terror. Where another places, such as Canada do not produce content like this. People in Canada are not exposed to the cruelty of the real world. Whether or not this is a good or bad thing is undecided, but I will certainly look into this and how it affects the people in the country. Overall the first week has shown decent amount of progress. I have been unable to secure an interview, but I do plan to talk to some people who have lived in different countries and how entertainment differs from there to here. By next week I should have at least one interview to post. In the time think about how media influences you everyday and how the type of games and TV you watch could affect your daily routine.
The video above is a trailer for the game that was banned in Australia called Saints Row The 4th.
